Why Zego was selected as our online payment provider

➤ Security & Trustworthiness

The security and trustworthiness of an online payment provider was of the upmost concern while researching vendors. Since the vendor will be accepting payments on behalf of the association and depositing those payments into the associations general fund account, we needed to ensure that the vendor had a secure infrastructure and were fully compliant with all payment processing rules. Zego met those requirements by having a Level 1 Payment Card Industry (PCI) certification and being SSAE 16 compliant.

With regards to trustworthiness, Zego is a market leader in this area, most recently known as PayLease. Zego currently serves more than 12 million units nation wide with portfolio types such as multifamily, single family, HOA and student and corporate housing.

Payment Card Industry (CPI) Level 1

PCI regulates the security and business processes of service providers that store, process or transmits consumer credit card data. A Level 1 certification is the most secure ranking a processor can receive and Zego undergoes annual on-site audits to maintain this certification. This includes thorough audits of our data center and our data processing procedures. Our data center has been certified PCI compliant and all data processing is protected by industry standard hardware and software. Data is monitored on a 24x7 basis. As part of PCI Standards, Zego does not store credit card information by employing tokenizing methods for data processing, and complies with all applicable banking regulations.

SSAE 16

Zego has been certified SSAE 16 compliant which is an internationally recognized third party assurance audit designed for service organizations. It stands for Statement on Standards for Attestation Engagements (SSAE ) No.16, and is regulated by the Auditing Standards Board (ASB) of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). The SSAE 16 audit confirms that Zego maintains a secure, stable and compliant infrastructure that satisfies requirements of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. As of June 15, 2011 the SSAE 16 audit officially replaced SAS 70 as the audit standard for payment processors.

➤ Cost to the Association & Members

Cost was a major factor when considering an online payment vendor. We wanted to ensure that our we didn't increase our current dues in order to implement this solution. Zego was able to offer our association 100% free implementation services and no monthly subscription costs. Zego makes money through low payment processing fees.

We also wanted to choose a vendor that offered low payment processing fees. Zego offered lower payment processing fees compared to that of its competitors. The processing fees are added at the time a payment is made through the website. See the Flexibility of payment options and technology for more information.

➤ Flexibility of payment options and technology

The RCSA Board is excited to be joining 21st century technology, but we understand how important it is to remain flexible in our payment options.

Using Zego is 100% optional. If you still prefer to pay your dues by mailing in your check, you may continue to do so. Should you decide to pay your dues online, Zego accepts the following payment methods:

  • eCheck (ACH) - $2.95

  • Credit - 3.5%

  • Debit - $6.95

  • PayPal - $9.95

With Zego, payments can be made from your computer's web browser, mobile web browser, or from the Zego mobile app. Their online portal also enables members to sign up for automatic payments and reminders if they choose to do so (not required).
